Description

NeuroMetrix designs, develops and markets products that enable all physicians to diagnose neuropathies at the point of care. Neuropathies are diseases of the peripheral nerves and parts of the spine that frequently are caused by or are associated with diabetes, lower back pain and carpal tunnel syndrome, as well as other clinical disorders.

Products/Services

NeuroMetrix offers the NC-stat system, a neuropathy diagnostic system that enables physicians to diagnose patients with neuropathies at the point-of-care.

Technology

The NC-Stat Monitor measures standard nerve conduction parameters, amplitude, latency, and conduction velocity of the motor and sensory nerves. The NC-stat biosensors are nerve-specific, patch-like devices that are placed on the body and connected to the NC-stat monitor. The NC-stat biosensors convert nerve signals to electronic data that can be received and displayed by the NC-stat monitor.

Market/Customers

In-office testing could expand the market for nerve conduction studies to as many as 9.5 million procedures annually, creating a $1 billion market opportunity. Available since May 1999, the NC-stat System is currently being used in 5,000 physicians' offices by 15,000 physicians; more than 1 million patients have been tested to date.

Competitors/Substitutes/Alternatives

Medtronic, Oxford Instruments.

Strategy

The company is developing a drug delivery program, which will broaden the company's market from neurodiagnostics to neurotherapeutics. This program is still in early stage.
