Description
Deltex Medical is a UK-based hemodynamic monitoring company manufacturing and selling medical monitors to facilitate quicker and fuller recovery in patients who had undergone major surgery.
Products / Services
The CardioQ Esophageal Doppler Monitor monitors the flow of blood leaving the heart with every beat as it happens, enabling it to detect any reduction in circulating blood volume (hypovolemia) early and in real-time. This allows anesthesiologists to intervene quickly and safely, using a controlled combination of specialized fluids and drugs to optimize patients before hypovolemia becomes serious and potentially life threatening. The SupraQ is an entirely non-invasive device which uses an ultrasound probe held at the base of the patient's neck to track the flow of blood in the aorta; it presents the same data as the CardioQ in a similar format, but it is used for taking snapshots or monitoring over short periods
Technology / Differentiation
The CardioQ incorporates the company's proprietary software and a small diameter, easy-to-use, minimally invasive, disposable ultra-sound esophageal probe that is used for transmitting and receiving an ultra-sound signal. Multiple clinical trials have demonstrated that the CardioQ Monitor ensures that patients receive the right amount of the right fluid at the right time during their surgery. This targeted volume management (TVM) reduces complications and enables patients to return home from the operation sooner than expected.
Market / Customers
Approximately 1,500 CardioQ monitors are currently in place at various hospitals, with more than 300,000 patients benefitting from their use in surgery and intensive care. Distribution arrangements have been established in over 30 countries.
Status
In April 2008, company released the CardioQODM, an upgraded version of the CardioQ that provides users with an improved and more flexible software interface as well as with greater data management capabilities. Deltex Medical expects sales for the six months ended June 30, 2008 to be in excess of £2.4 million, which is more than 25% higher than sales for the corresponding period in 2007 (valued at £1.9 million). The company has implemented its products in three hospitals in Southern California and is actively considering additional sites in the United States. Private healthcare providers have started to reimburse doctors (i.e., pay additional fees for clinician time) for using the CardioQ-ODM; the process of reimbursement by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is underway.
