Products / Services
VNS (vagus nerve stimulation) Therapy is a treatment approach now available specifically for treatment-resistant depression.
Market / Customers
VNS Therapy is indicated for use as an adjunctive long-term treatment of chronic or recurrent depression for patients 18 years of age or older who are experiencing a major depressive episode and have not had an adequate response to four or more adequate antidepressant treatments.
Strategy
The Company is currently focused on epilepsy, the world's second most prevalent neurological disorder.
Status
In 1997, Cyberonics received approval from the Food and Drug Administration to market VNS Therapy for the treatment of epilepsy. Since that time, more than 32,000 patients worldwide have been implanted with the device. In July 2005 VNS Therapy was approved by the FDA as a long-term adjunctive treatment for treatment-resistant depression.
