Description |
| HemCon Medical Technologies manufactures a pliable, sterile, chitosan dressing capable of stopping severe external hemorrhaging following trauma and penetrating injury, even from high-pressure, high-flow arterial bleeds. HemCon's role has expanded from being a provider of military hemorrhage control products to being a full medical technology company.
| Products / Services |
In 2006, HemCon introduced three new products. The 2" x 2" and 2" x 4" HemCon Bandages use the same materials and technology as the original HemCon Bandage, but are engineered specifically for civilian trauma and emergency medicine. For medics that address severely bleeding penetrating injuries, such as those resulting from small arms fire or shrapnel, HemCon has introduced ChitoFlex. ChitoFlex is designed to be packed into a wound track to control bleeding. HemCon's oral wound dressings offer general dentists, periodontists and oral surgeons dressings for soft tissue wounds (including extractions, palatal and gingival grafts and other oral surgeries).
| Technology / Differentiation |
| The HemCon Bandage acts as a barrier between an open wound and infectious bacteria. It does not contain human proteins or clotting factors, nor does it generate heat.
| Market / Customers |
HemCon products are designed for use by military and civilian first responders as well as medical professionals in hospital, dental and clinical settings where rapid control of bleeding is of critical importance.

| Status |
| The Hemcon Bandage received FDA approval in July 2005. In January 2007, HemCon received the European Union CE marking for the ChitoFlex bandage. With receipt of this certification, HemCon is positioned to increase distribution into countries requiring the CE marking, including Great Britain, Germany and the rest of the EU. |
