Description
RedPath is a CLIA certified and CAP accredited commercial laboratory that integrates molecular DNA analysis with conventional pathology review. The company provides early and definitive cancer diagnostic support for pathologists and clinicians faced with diagnostic dilemmas or inconclusive results from standard testing.
Products / Services
PathFinderTG is a patented advanced testing platform for resolving "indeterminate, atypical, suspicious, equivocal and non-diagnostic specimen" diagnoses from the original pathology specimen. Depending on the type of tumor, this technology provides clinicians with the information necessary for them to make subsequent treatment decisions (i.e., surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, re-evaluation of benign tumors).
Technology / Differentiation
RedPath's PathfinderTG is built on a proprietary, patented Topographic Genotyping platform, a high throughput molecular profiling system. PathFinderTG focuses on the temporal sequence of acquired mutational damage rather than inherited genetic predisposition for certain diseases. Acquired mutational damage, as opposed to tumor invasiveness, has been implicated in the metastasis and aggressiveness of various cancers. This fusion of quantitative genetic mutational analysis with pathology analysis can deliver unprecedented diagnostic accuracy when differentiating between reactive versus neoplastic lesions, grades of dysplasia, benign versus malignant lesions, metastatic, synchronous and recurrent tumors and biologically indolent versus aggressive tumors. The company uses a broad panel of genetic markers, microdissection techniques and proprietary DNA amplification methods to produce unique information about cancer progression in each patient.
Market / Customers
The market for cancer diagnostics will reach $7.4 billion by 2009 and is expected to increase as more cancer cases are diagnosed. Approximately 1.4 million individuals in the United States are diagnosed with cancer annually.
Status
In October 2008, RedPath Integrated Pathology received the Pittsburgh Technology Council Tech 50 Award in Life Sciences. The company closed a $3 million round of financing in May 2008, and announced In June 2007 that PathFinderTG was approved by Highmark Medicare Services for reimbursement coverage.
