Description
meridianEMR specializes in providing Electronic Medical Record (EMR) solutions via integrated practice management and laboratory systems. The company holds a vast library of clinical content and proprietary real-time data synchronization technology.
Products / Services
meridianPM is a server-based system designed for use with Microsoft Windows and built on a SQL (standard query language) database. The company's software is HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliant for electronic claim and remittance processing transactions as well as for all provisions under the Privacy and Security Rules. meridianEMR's Urology System is an evaluation and management coding system which also offers extensive prostate cancer diagnosis information, complete records of patient procedures and results, and over 120 urology templates for common procedures. Additionally, the "Blended Model" system creates and stores patient data in physicians' offices and over the internet simultaneously so that physicians may access records from any location at any time. meridianEMR's newest release, the Health Maintenance Explorer module, conducts real-time searches for patients meeting the criteria of a practice's health maintenance guidelines (i.e. diabetic patients over fifty currently on antihypertensive medications).
Technology / Differentiation
Designed by an interdisciplinary team of physicians and software engineers, meridianEMR combines the power of Java and XML to create a highly modular medical EMR. The "Blended Model" provides physicians with an effective combination of client server and ASP models; the local practice server(s) provides immediate access and the master server provides real time replication and data synchronization necessary for universal access to the medical record. The system allows for instant crossover from local to master server if there is no connection to the practice network, coordinates distribution of lab results and interface data without the need for a virtual private network (VPN) in the office, and eliminates the need for backups with automatic upgrading and distribution of software. meridianEMR's use of HL7 technology enables the development of comprehensive interfaces for: demographics (basic patient information, insurance, and provider information), scheduling (including a system for tracking patient arrival and physician workflow), charges, centralized lab result collection and hardware (the system interfaces to Bayer's Clintek Urinalysis). An XML file is configured for each practice and parameters are established for the interface, so the interface can be customized without additional coding each time.
Market / Customers
The U.S. market for EMR was estimated at $1.2 billion in 2007 and is expected to reach $5 billion by 2015. Despite the increased demand for EMR, its actual usage in American medical facilities still pales in comparison to usage abroad: 98 percent of Dutch medical practices were employing EMRswith advanced clinical functions in 2006, as compared to 28 percent in the United States. Over four hundred urologists are currently using meridianEMR's platform.
Status
On May 1, 2007, the company announced that its EMR system had received certification from the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHITSM). As a CCHIT certified product, meridianEMR has met the standards for functionality, interoperability, and security.
