Description
Crospon has developed a novel imaging-diagnostic platform targeted primarily at the gastroenterology and upper gastrointestinal surgery markets.
Products / Services
The EndoFLIP (Endoscopic Functional Lumen Imaging Probe) is a device measuring the competence of the valve between the esophagus and stomach, known as the gastroesophageal junction (GEJ). It represents a potential new tool in the diagnosis of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Additional follow-on products are anticipated for applications in bariatric surgery and esophageal dilation, as well as esophageal, colonic and pulmonary stent sizing. Crospon will then focus on assisting bariatric surgeons by providing a novel method for stoma and pouch measurement.
Market / Customers
An estimated 700,000 endoscopies for GERD related symptoms are performed annually in the U.S. 200,000 of these patients will be referred for further tests, such as pH-metry and manometry (measuring pressure within the esophagus), and may be considered for surgical intervention. Approximately 210,000 bariatric procedures were performed in the U.S. in 2007; this is expected to increase 660,000 procedures worldwide by 2012.
Status
Crospon is currently seeking a strategic partner for the sales and marketing of the EndoFLIP. The company raised $3.3 million in seed capital in 2007 and a further $4.6 million Series A round in March 2008; it is planning a further funding round of approximately $5 million in Q2 2009. Though Crospon intends to launch its first product in early 2009, it will require these funds to support marketing, working capital requirements and ongoing research and development for follow-on products.
