Description
Vivostat A/S is a privately owned company based in the Medicon Valley of Scandinavia. The company focuses on development, manufacturing and marketing of a range of medical devices all based on the unique Vivostat blood processing technology.
Products / Services
The advanced Vivostat technology is used on a daily basis in a great number of surgical departments and wound care centres across Europe and Asia. Today, three products are available, all based on the widely patented Vivostat technology platform.

VIVOSTAT FIBRIN SEALANT: Vivostat Fibrin Sealant offers a safe and effective alternative to conventional surgical sealants. The fully automated system prepares a solution of 5-6 ml of autologous fibrin sealant from the patient's own blood in just 23 minutes. Unlike conventional fibrin sealant products, Vivostat Fibrin Sealant does not contain any components from donor blood, thereby eliminating the risks of transmitting viral diseases.

VIVOSTAT PRF: Vivostat PRF is the first and only product on the market to offer a convenient and fully automated process for the preparation of a true Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) to stimulate the healing of chronic wounds. By combining a platelet concentrate with a fibrin sealant solution, it is possible to have a carrier, a controlled release and a medium for vascular ingrowth all in one product, Vivostat PRF.

VIVOSTAT CO-DELIVERY: Vivostat Co-delivery enables you to use the fibrin matrix found in Vivostat Fibrin Sealant or Vivostat PRF as a "delivery system" for topical application of drugs e.g. antibiotics. A specially developed application system makes it straightforward to embed your own choice of drug or other solutions into the fibrin matrix for co-application. Following application, the fibrin matrix will be broken down by fibrinolytic processes. During this process, the drug is gradually released to the surrounding tissue within 3-5 days.
Technology / Differentiation
The Vivostat technology utilizes the patient's own blood to derive either a surgical sealant to prevent/stop bleedings, or a gel with a high concentration of growth factors (Platelet Rich Fibrin) that stimulates the healing of chronic wounds

By using the patient's own blood there is no risk of allergic reactions or transfer of viral diseases. This is an increasingly important factor as more and new viruses, such as Avian bird flu etc., develop.

All products are sold through direct sales channels and distributors throughout Europe and Asia - mainly to surgical departments and wound care centres. More than 98% of the company's sale is export.
Market / Customers
The world-wide market for surgical sealants is estimated to be around USD 700-800 million with an annual growth of 10-16% (depending on the region).

No market reports describing the world-wide market for advanced wound care treatments are available, but one US company sold advanced wound care devices for USD 1.2 billion in 2007.
Status
Vivostat A/S recently started the US approval process for Vivostat PRF. Furthermore, in 2007 Vivostat A/S has established direct sales organizations in the major European markets, Germany and the UK.
