Description
IntraTherm is focused on developing thermal ablation devices to ablate and inhibit local recurrence of breast, head and neck, liver, lung and colon cancer. The technology is compatible with standard of care treatments and imaging modalities. IntraTherm assembled a group of expert scientists, physicians and engineers to bring this new technology to the medical market.
Products / Services
The company will offer the conductive interstitial thermal therapy (CITT) device as a surgical tool to inhibit local recurrence of solid cancerous tumors in the breast, head and neck, liver, lung and colon. Advanced treatment planning software and fully automatic heating and cooling probes will be marketed.
Technology / Differentiation
IntraTherm developed a conductive interstitial thermal therapy (CITT) device that is designed to sterilize surgical margins. The technology includes proprietary probe design and software for treatment planning and real-time control and visualization of the ablation process. The efficacy and the predictability of the CITT device was tested and proven in live animal studies. The CITT principles of operations are protected with three utility patents. IntraTherm LLC holds a world wide exclusive license for all existing and pending patents.
Market / Customers
IntraTherm will sell the CITT device to Oncological surgeons and interventional radiologists. It is estimated that 35,300 ablation procedures were performed in 2008 and nearly 400,000 will be done annually by 2010, when the thermal ablation market is estimated to exceed $ 1.6B a year.
Competitors / Substitutes / Alternatives
Radiofrequency ablation (RFA), laser ablation, focused ultrasound with MRI guidance and cryotherapy are currently used to thermally ablate cancer tumors. However, these technologies are focused on ablation of solid tumors. The CITT is the only device, to the best of our knowledge, which is designed to inhibit local recurrence of cancer. The CITT principles of operations are protected with multiple recent and pending utility patents.
Strategy
IntraTherm will institute an integrated marketing approach. This campaign can maximize brand exposure and be formulated and executed quickly with the Sales and Marketing Force collaborating with a nationally-known public relations expert.
Funding
  • $2.1 million dollars of equity investment is required to complete the R&D and an
  • $2.5 million to begin market penetration for the IntraTherm device.

  • All funding to date has been private equity.
    Status
The company expected slow growth initially, then explosive growth within the decade.
