Description
Zogenix is a specialty pharmaceutical company whose goal is to uniquely enhance and differentiate medicines by incorporating innovative technologies in an effort to relieve suffering in people with CNS and pain disorders.Founded in 2006, the company currently has two proprietary product candidates in late-stage development. Their lead product candidate, SUMAVEL DOSEPRO (sumatriptan injection) needle-free delivery system, is a drug-device combination that enables needle-free delivery of subcutaneous sumatriptan the fastest acting migraine medicine for the treatment of migraine and cluster headache. Their second product candidate, ZX002, is a novel, oral controlled-release formulation of hydrocodone for the treatment of chronic pain.
Products / Services
Sumatriptan DosePro is a drug-device combination that subcutaneously delivers sumatriptan for the treatment of migraine and cluster headaches. The company envisions sumatriptan DosePro will serve as a replacement for other injectable forms of sumatriptan and as a more efficacious alternative to tablet and nasal triptans. ZX002 is a proprietary, orally-administered version of hydrocodone used for the treatment of moderate to severe chronic pain in patients requiring continuous opioid therapy. This therapy offers a controlled-release profile combining immediate and extended release properties, employing the proprietary Spheroidal Oral Drug Absorption System from Elan Pharma International Ltd. (SODAS).
Technology / Differentiation
The DosePro technology (formerly known as Intraject) has undergone more than ten years of design, process engineering, clinical evaluation and development work, including significant capital investment by the predecessor owners of the technology, Weston Medical Group, plc and Aradigm Corporation
Market / Customers
The company's technology presents significant market potential across a broad range of therapeutic applications involving small volume injectable products, such as hepatitis, infertility, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Status
Zogenix received FDA approval for its sumatriptan delivery system in July 2009.
