| Description |
|
Athena Feminine Technologies is dedicated to improving the quality of life of women worldwide by providing products that address female pelvic and reproductive health concerns. The company's primary goal is to provide women with discreet, affordable and effective ways to treat disorders caused by weakness in the pelvic floor. Holding fast to its "for women, by women" focus, all of the women on the Athena team use the company's proprietary Pelvic Muscle Trainer. |
 |
| Products / Services |
The Athena Pelvic Muscle Trainer (Athena PMT) developed for the treatment and prevention of female incontinence. It is also the only FDA-approved wireless electrical stimulation product on the market capable of treating related pelvic floor problems in women. Specifically, Pelvic Floor Electric Stimulation (PFES) facilitates contraction and relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles, which enables the Athena PMT to perform Kegel exercises automatically. These exercises, in turn, strengthen and tone the supporting pelvic floor muscles and tissue. The company's wireless technology can be used whenever and wherever patients desire, significantly increasing compliance and improving outcomes. Athena plans to expand the use of its current product-and develop future products-to address female sexual dysfunction, male incontinence and fertility. The company is also planning to develop its diagnostic potential to measure certain vaginal biomarker parameters important for both patients and clinicians.

 |
| Technology / Differentiation |
| Pelvic Floor Electric Stimulation (PFES) is an established treatment for incontinence and other pelvic floor disorders yielding no side effects. The Athena PMT is the first in a series of advanced technology products that can detect and/or rehabilitate common physiological changes that occur in adult women using this technique. A cordless device operated using just three AAA batteries, the Athena PMT can be inserted into the body like a tampon. Once turned on, it then commences a fifteen-minute workout of alternating cycles of muscle stimulation and muscle rest. The device is removed at the end of this short session, washed and stored until the next use. The Athena PMT has two settings to treat stress, urge and mixed incontinence. |

| Market / Customers |
18 million women in the United States alone are affected by pelvic floor disorders. Approximately 33% of women around the world will experience incontinence at some point in their lives, and the World Health Organization estimates that over 182 million women worldwide are currently incontinent. Incontinence is an expensive condition in terms of financial and opportunity costs. According to the NIH, approximately $8 billion is spent on incontinence and pelvic health products in the U.S. and an additional $8 is spent on surgeries to rectify pelvic health conditions. Incontinence can often lead to isolation, inactivity, depression and diminished sexual functioning.

The Athena PMT currently costs $724, most of which is typically covered under Medicare and by other health insurance policies. |
