| Description |
Intelligent Medical Implants (IMI) has developed an 'artificial retina' designed to restore natural visual information processing functions in patients suffering from degenerative retinal disorders. The device gathers images from the surroundings using a built-in camera and subsequently translates them into electrical stimulation commands within the eye. Blind patients can then acquire modest visual perception and enhanced sense of orientation. |
| Products / Services |
IRIS- Intelligent Retinal Implant System, is a visual prosthesis, artifcial retina, that bridges damged function of the real retina.
| Technology / Differentiation |
| The Learning Retina Implant System has a modular design and consists of three main components: the Retinal Stimulator (the component actually implanted in the eye), the Visual Interface and the Pocket Processor. The Visual Interface includes a built-in camera that captures images from the wearers surroundings. |
| Market / Customers |
The company's retinal implant is currently undergoing clinical trials; it holds a market potential of 8 billion Euros for retinitis pigmentosa and 30 billion Euros for ARMD.
