| Description |

Telik Inc. discovers, develops, and commercializes novel, small-molecule drugs to treat cancer and other serious diseases. The Company uses its proprietary Target-Related Affinity Profiling (TRAP®) technology to measure the bonding between a small molecule and the Company’s proprietary reference panel of proteins, and in that manner creates a profile for each compound rather than test up to two million compounds in order to identify the few that interact selectively with a disease-related protein target, as is done in traditional small molecular screening, hence, TRAP® enables the rapid discovery and efficient optimization of small molecule drug candidates. Telik’s candidate TELINTRA® is a small molecule product designed to inhibit the enzyme glutathione S-transferase P1-1 (GSTP1-1), an overexpressed enzyme in many human cancer cells; TELINTRA® has been shown to increase white blood cell count in trials, and it is currently under clinical development for myelodyplastic syndrome and severe chronic idiopathic neutropenia. TELCYTA® is a cancer cell-activated chemotherapeutic that studies suggest is split into two active, cancer-fighting fragments upon contact with GSTP1-1, and has shown clinical activity against advanced ovarian, non-small cell lung, colon, and breast cancers. This earlier-stage biotechnology company also partners with select academic institutions and pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to undertake new drug discovery programs. |
