Arbios develops, manufactures and markets liver assist devices to meet the urgent need for therapy that facilitates recovery from liver failure. Its two principal products are in the early stages of development. |

Arbios' products currently under development are SEPET, a novel blood detoxification therapy employing selective plasma filtration, and HepatAssist-2, a hybrid bioartificial liver utilizing porcine liver cells and detoxification to artificially provide whole liver functions.

| SEPET is designed for use with any commercially available kidney dialysis unit and/or plasma apheresis system utilizing hollow-fiber cartridges. Liver and biliary diseases affect 25 million Americans, whose annual healthcare costs exceed $10 billion. While major advances have been made in general supportive treatment and critical care, no direct treatment for liver failure is available and such patients must receive a liver transplant or endure prolonged hospitalization with significant mortality.

| Arbios has exclusive rights to more than 20 patents protecting all aspects of SEPET and HepatAssist, and accompanying technologies.
Arbios has conducted pre-clinical studies for LIVERAID, a hybrid bioartificial liver that combines liver cell therapy and expanded blood detoxification in a cartridge with unique fiber-in-fiber geometry. The development of this product has been placed on hold. |
