Description
Life Record Inc. specializes in the development and marketing of medical record technology, releasing the first web-based EMR in September 1998 for use in medical practices and entering the personal health record market with Life Record EMR in June 2007. Life Record EMR enables patients to view and take control of their health records outside of the physician's office, wherever is most convenient for them; the latest version of the company's software is compatible with various platforms (i.e., PC, Mac and Linux) and 'smartphones' (including the Blackberry Storm, iPhone and Google Android).
Products / Services
Features of the Life Record EMR include EMRAnywhere (a tool enabling e-prescribing and quick decision-making in urgent situations) and InLobby Enrollment (which transfers patient information directly to the electronic medical record after check-in). ChartAnywhere provides physicians with remote access to a patient's complete medical record, including but not limited to: laboratory results, active prescriptions, diagnostic images and physician notes. Using a 20-digit ChartAnywhere code, referring physicians can also view and add information directly to the patient's medical record; primary physicians are immediately notified of any revisions to the record. Patients can use the same code to access their record via web browser; while they cannot change records, they may store and send questions and comments to their physicians via ChartAnywhere's secure communications platform. Life Record entries cannot be changed by third parties, such as insurance companies.
Technology / Differentiation
In 1998, Life Record developed the world's first web-enabled medical record software based on the Intersystems Cache database. The company's current EMRs are currently fully-functional web-enabled EMR applications built on new open and non-proprietary technologies, including PHP and MySQL. Life Record EMR offers tight integration with multimedia technologies, which allows incorporation of simple and advanced imaging techniques. As an example, When combined with the Free Open Source next generation DICOM viewer, Osirix, DICOM images and animations are easily added to the patient chart and viewed at the touch of a finger on an iPhone. LifePax technology creates electronic versions of existing papers currently used by physicians and adds tablet PC entries into the patient record.
Market / Customers
To date, more than 3000 physicians have used the My Life Record EMR software for their practices to organize patient information. Kalorama Information predicted in 2007 that the $1.2 billion annual EMR market will grow 14.1% each year over the next eight years; greater gains are expected with the recent $20 billion stimulus provision for EMR development and implementation. Commercial editions of the Life Record software are available for individual or family use.
Status
Life Record released Version 5.0 of its EMR in December 2008 and announced its 'immediate availability' for the Google Android and the BlackBerry Storm.
