| Description |
T2 Biosystems, Inc. develops, manufactures, and markets transformative in vitro and in vivo diagnostic products for the healthcare industry. Its next-generation medical diagnostic platform that will enable rapid and accurate diagnostic tests of all types on a single, easy-to-use instrument. |
| Products / Services |
The NanoDx system, T2's first diagnostic product, consists of a small portable instrument and disposable cartridge pre-loaded with nanoparticle reagents. Small samples of a patient's blood, saliva, urine or other biofluids are loaded onto the cartridges and inserted into the instrument, where they automatically mix with the nanoparticle reagents. Information on the target substance levels in the specimen is available within minutes and can be easily integrated into a lab information system, when appropriate.
| Technology / Differentiation |
| T2's proprietary technology combines nanotechnology and miniaturized magnetic resonance (MR) technology, eliminating the need for costly and time consuming sample preparation. Proprietary nanoparticles (composed of superparamagnetic metal core surrounded by a polymer layer decorated by multiple analyte-specific binding agents) coupled with reagents can quickly detect the presence of specific substances in solution within minutes using a portable MRI detector. These detectors consist of miniaturized magnets, detection coils and spectrometers specifically tailored to provide a rapid output of the nanoparticle assay result. |
| Market / Customers |
T2 Biosystems' technology presents wide-ranging applications in several high-value fields, including in vitro and in vivo medical diagnostics, research diagnostics, industrial applications, environmental sensing, public health and biosecurity.
| Status |
| T2 Biosystems raised $10.8 million in Series B financing in October 2008. Proceeds from the financing are being used to accelerate the development of T2 Biosystems' rapid diagnostic platform. Included in this round of funding is the company's strategic investment and technology advancement agreement with In-Q-Tel, an independent strategic investment firm identifying innovative technology solutions to support the mission of the broader U.S. Intelligence Community. |
