Description
NVR (Neural and Vascular Reconstruction) Labs is committed to develop and employ tissue engineering technologies, creating composite implants for the treatment of patients suffering from injuries of the central and peripheral nervous system.
Products / Services
ATZAV N-Gel is a proprietary biodegradable hydrogel infused with various factors shown to promote neuronal and vascular cell growth and repair, is the foundation of many of our other products. Factors infused into ATZAV N-Gel can be customized to favor neuronal, vascular, or simultaneous growth and repair. In addition, ATZAV N-Gel is capable of sustained local drug delivery, as required.
Technology / Differentiation
To achieve this goal NVR has developed a composite implant, combining neuronal tissue culturing and tissue engineering technologies. The implant is composed of the following components: Tissue engineered scaffold made of a co-polymer, which is bio-compatible and bio-degradable. The scaffold anchors the implant to the site of injury and protects its other components. In addition, we use this tubular scaffold for reconstruction of injured peripheral nerves, which exhibit nerve segment loss of more than 2 cm length. Nerve loss of such length is untreatable with synthetic devices currently available in the market. Viscous gel (NVR proprietary product), holding and slow-releasing growth factors, neurotrophic and neuroprotective agents, hence providing an excellent milieu for growth and development of the implanted cells. When cultured in the gel, nerve cells maintain their viability for several days at room temperature and regain their intensive sprouting activity after being put back into the incubator at 37 degrees Celsius. Implanted nerve cells, embedded in the gel, are obtained from several sources. As an autologous adult source, cultured cells from human olfactory nasal mucosa, are currently the only available source of neuronal autogenic cells. These neuronal precursor stem cells can be easily obtained from the adult spinal cord injured patients. Other sources of cells include allogeneic embryonic stem cell-lines, NIH approved, which are further induced by us to differentiate into neuronal precursor cells and functional neurons. For the treatment of peripheral injuries, NVR is building a tube composed of NVR's proprietary biodegradable biological material. This tube, which is filled with NVR's gel, is used for reconstruction of peripheral nerve injuries ranging between 3-5 cm, which is untreatable with synthetic devices currently available on the market.
Market / Customers
Examples of conditions treated include peripheral and central nerve injury, cutaneous nerve damage, and ischemic vascular diseases (impeded blood flow), both in the heart and in peripheral areas.
