| Description |
Telcare uses cellular machine-2-machine technology to bridge the last mile between patients and their caregivers in order to improve the care of chronic illness. Telcare's first product will be the TelCheck glucose meter that instantly transmits glucose values to a care-management server and provides instant feedback and coaching to patients with diabetes. Subsequent products will address asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, and hypertension. |
| Products / Services |
The TelCheck meter will be introduced at the same price point as standard glucose meters that offer no wireless connectivity. Clinical studies using prototype devices suggest that the resulting feedback loop between patient and caregiver is associated with significant improvements in compliance with testing and in patients' blood glucose control. The degree of improvement in sugar control in routinely associated with more than a 30% reduction in long term complications of diabetes, including amputations, heart attacks, strokes, and blindness.

| Technology / Differentiation |
| Although there are many entrants in the "wireless health" or "mHealth" space, most have focused on attempting to link patients via WiFi, bluetooth, or other short-range wireless technologies via a gateway. Such gateways are generally not mobile, restricting the use of the wireless health product to a fixed location. In contrast, Telcare's technology uses state of the art cellular connectivity to create a two-way link between the patient and caregiver anywhere there is a cellular data network present. |
| Market / Customers |
The global market for glucose meters and testing supplies exceeds $8 billion annually. Telcare's initial customers are managed care organizations that stand to benefit financially from improving the control of diabetes in their insured populations. Moreover those customers have formulary control sufficient to influence consumer choice in an otherwise undifferentiated market for glucose meters and testing supplies. Should Telcare succeed in capturing 1% of this global market, management projects a profitable enterprise valued in excess of $500 million.
| Status |
| A working prototype of the TelCheck glucose meter has been tested over the past six months and demonstrated to key customers. Telcare expects to complete clinical trials of the device by June 2010 and to obtain FDA and FCC clearance by Q4 2010. Telcare has raised sufficient Series A round financing to complete clinical trials and FDA submission. A series B round in planned in order to support product launch and engineering of future products. |
