Description
SARcode is developing small molecule LFA-1 inhibitors as alternatives to steriods in the treatment of inflammatory diseases. Current programs leverage target tissue specific topical formulations of its NCE's to address significant unmet medical needs in Ophthalmology (peri-ocular, anterior and posterior segments) and Dermatology. The company's timelines target approval of ophthalmic drops in 2013. SARcode is exploring possible alliances to accelerate and expand the scope of its near term opportunities for the company, its investors and potentially for a strategic partner.
Products / Services
SARcode is a clinical development stage biotechnology company which is developing novel pharmaceutical products. The company's focus is on a proprietary class of small molecule anti-inflammatory agents targeting LFA-1 on infiltrating inflammatory cells. SARcode is advancing these compounds in multiple product configurations for use in ophthalmology and dermatology.

Ophthalmic drops: peri-ocular, anterior and posterior segment disease (dry eye, uveitis, post surgical inflammation, DME...)

Ophthalmic implant: slow release microspheres targeting release over 6-12 months for treatment of DME.

Ointment: atopic dermatitis
Technology / Differentiation
SARcode's lead compound, SAR 1118, is an NCE designed for local delivery with anti-inflammatory potency similar to steroids and calcineurin antagonists (e.g., cyclosporine). Enhanced solubility in formulation (>100 mg/mL), excellent local pharmacokinetics favoring QD dosing and rapid clearance from the systemic circulation are combined in preclinical studies demonstrating efficacy in canine dry eye and the rat STZ model of diabetic macular edema (DME) from an ophthalmic drop. These drops appear safe and well tolerated in a human Phase 1 study
Funding
The company seeks Series B financing and/or strategic partners to complete their clinical development.
Status
SARcode's lead program, SAR 1118 ophthalmic drops, is currently in a Phase 2 study for the treatment of Dry Eye (see www.clinicaltrials.gov). The study is fully enrolled with data expected in 1Q 2010. This program targets regulatory approval in 2013.

The dermatology program targets atopic dermatitis and a clinical POC in 1H 2011.

SARcode is exploring possible alliances to accelerate and expand scope of this near term ophthalmology opportunity for the company, its investors, and potentially for a strategic partner.
