Description
Advanced Cell Technology is a biotechnology company applying cellular technology in the field of regenerative medicine.
Products / Services
Blastomere Program allows for synthesis of human embryonic stem cell (hESC) lines without disrupting embryonic development, eliminating ethical considerations surrounding stem cell lines obtained by destroying embryos and making the company's hESC lines eligible for the ever growing pool of federal funds designed to enhance understanding of regenerative therapies.

Retinal Pigment Epithelial (RPE) Program targets diseases of the retina such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) by injecting RPE cells derived from hESCs into the sub retina area in order to moderate damage to the eye resulting from as many as 200 conditions, many of which are currently untreatable. Myoblast Program ? Targets heart failure, chronic heart failure and patients with scarred or ischemic (dead) heart tissue related to heart attack through substitution of myoblast cells for the dead or defective tissue via injection of new cells directly into the heart using a state of the art catheter system.

Hemangioblast Program is focused on creation of hemangioblasts (blood cells) from hESCs, allowing for synthesis of fully functional blood cells. The program allows for the potential to manufacture of significant supplies of red bloods or platelets for emergency transfusion.
Technology / Differentiation
ACTC , through its patented technology, is capable of generating human embryonic stem cells, the master cells of the human body capable of differentiating into all other cell types, without destroying the embryos from which the cells are derived. The company's revolutionary platform of therapies capable of regenerating damaged or non-functional tissue is currently one of only a select few to have sought eligibility from the US FDA to begin clinical trials which would ultimately allow it to begin using its regenerative therapies to treat human subjects.
Market / Customers
Over 12 million individuals in the US afflicted with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of sight loss in older adults, representing a potential multi-billion dollar market.

Myoblast Program-Heart failure is the leading cause of hospitalization among people age 65 and older, accounting for an estimated $35 billion dollars in associated costs annually.

Hemangioblast Program-Source of emergency blood supply for emergency situations including ER intercity situations and in-field military emergencies.
Competitors / Substitutes / Alternatives
Geron, Genzyme, StemCells, Inc., Aastrom, NeuralStem Celegene
Status
Filed an Investigational New Drug (IND) application with the US FDA to initiate a Phase I/II multicenter study using embryonic stem cell derived retinal cells to treat patients with Stargardt's Macular Dystrophy (SMD), a leading cause of juvenile blindness which has been granted Orphan disease status from the FDA. The company expects to receive approval to commence clinical activities by the second quarter of 2010.
