| Description |
|
Verisante, Inc. is medical devices company focused on the commercialization
of a novel skin cancer imaging device developed by the BC Cancer Agency and UBC
Faculty of Medicine. The first product, Verisante Aura, uses NIR Raman Spectroscopy
and autoflourescence spectroscopy to measure 21 biomarkers for skin cancer in half a
second. This technology has been tested for six years in vivo on about 1000 lesions at the
Vancouver Skin Care Centre, Vancouver General Hospital, and results published in 2008
showed a sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 70% for melanoma, the deadliest form of
skin cancer. The technology is also expandable to lung, colon, and cervical cancer as
well. |

 |
| Technology / Differentiation |
| The Verisante Aura uses NIR Raman Spectroscopy and autoflourescence spectroscopy to measure 21 biomarkers for skin cancer in half a second. The technology is differentiated by the fact that it gives an instant result versus 2-5 minutes for other methods, and also works on all skin cancers, not just melanoma. In addition, the rate of false positives is relatively low compared to other competing technologies, and the probe is very small compared to large probes which cannot scan lesions in and around the ear, eyes, nose, and between fingers and toes. Finally, the Verisante is a platform which can detect other cancers using different probes attached. |
 |
| Market / Customers |
Verisante Aura: dermatologists, hospitals, cancer clinics, primary care physicians - each year 2 million Americans are diagnosed with 3.5 million skin cancer lesions. Detected early the 5 yr. survival rate for skin cancer can be up to 99%, and if detected late as low as 15%.
Verisante Core for lung cancer: each year 1.5 million people die of lung cancer globally. Detected early, 5 year survival rates can be as high as 90%, but if detected in late stage as low as 1%.
