| Technology / Differentiation |
| Ingestible Gastric Volume Reducer
Currently, over half of the adult population in the U.S. is overweight or obese. Of these patients, over 6 million are 100 pounds or more overweight with 15 million more nearly there. Those suffering from this epidemic of obesity are at a substantially increased risk of medical ailments and a range of diseases, including: Type II diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, certain cancers, and other disorders.
Recent studies have indicated that obesity can reduce lifespan by an average of 3 years and 20 years in adults and children, respectively. Despite this fact, there are no effective non-invasive therapies available and often the symptomatically obese patient must resort to the complication-ridden and potentially fatal major bowel surgery involved in gastric bypass or gastric reduction.
PolymorfiX patent pending IGVR technology has the potential to noninvasively and reversibly reduce the effective gastric volume, thus accomplishing the same goals as gastric reduction, but without the risks of surgery. The IGVR will be composed of compounds already approved for use by the FDA, thus greatly accelerating its market entrance. |

| Funding |
| Using its seed funding from MedVenture Associates (www.medven.com), PolymorfiX is currently pursuing parallel paths of R&D for two related but disparate approaches to obesity management. It is anticipated that significant advances will be made by July of 2004 with achievement of key funding milestones including:
1) Completion of first-generation prototypes
2) Proof of principle in in-vitro, laboratory testing
3) Proof of principle in animal experimentation
Assuming that these key funding milestones are achieved, PolymorfiX will seek funding for initiation of human clinical studies in August 2004. |
