Description
Facet Solutions is developing a system of implants and instrumentation to allow a spine surgeon to perform facet joint arthroplasty, or replacement of the facet joints for the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis and degenerative spondylolisthesis. The facets form the posterior portion of the spine, and support a meaningful portion of the load carried by the spine. Facet was spun out of Medicine Loge, a Utah-based orthopedics company.
Products / Services
The Anatomic Facet Replacement System, AFRS, is a joint reconstruction device that ideally matches the size and shape of the facet joint and is designed to provide patients with pain relief, normal motion, and stability.
Technology / Differentiation
Facet Solutions has developed a motion preserving alternative to bone fusion with rigid spinal fixation by replacing diseased facet joints with an anatomic implant which restores physiologic motion, stability, and balance of the spine.
Market / Customers
Lumbar spinal stenosis/spondylolisthesis results in 400,000 surgeries annually and represents an immediately addressable market estimated at $440-$660 million.
Status
Facet Solutions has initiated a clinical trial in Lumbar Spinal Stenosis/ Spondylolisthesis with the The Anatomic Facet Replacement System (AFRS). The company is seeking to raise Series C financing of $20 million, to be used in funding commercialization operations in Europe and recruitment for the U.S. pivotal trial.
