| Description |
EnteroMedics Inc. was established in late 2002 to develop and commercialize a new therapeutic platform for treating a wide range of acute and chronic diseases that are mediated by the vagal nerves. Due to the large unmet need for more effective surgical management of obesity, and following an in-depth analysis of how the vagus nerve affects food intake and processing, EnteroMedics has selected obesity management as its primary focus. |
| Products / Services |
EnteroMedics' prime product is that of VBLOC therapy. VBLOC Therapy is delivered through laparoscopically implanted leads to intermittently block vagal nerve trunks. High frequency, low energy electrical impulses are delivered by an implantable system to block the messages conveyed through the vagal nerves.
| Technology / Differentiation |
| EnteroMedics' products are based on its proprietary Vagal Smart ModulationTM (VSMTM) system. This technology is designed to control vagus nerve signals to key organs, including the stomach and pancreas, offering targeted therapeutic outcomes not currently available with existing technologies. The Company's lead product is currently in clinical development for the treatment of obesity. |
