| Description |
|
Nephros develops End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) therapies that dramatically improve clinical efficacy. The company is diversifying its product line with the introduction of water filtration devices. |
 |
| Products / Services |
Nephros's commercialized products include the OLpur MD190, a dialyzer that incorporates the company's proprietary mid-dilution diafiltration technologies and is designed for use with existing HDF platforms and the OLpur HD190, a high-flux dialyzer designed for use with either hemodialysis or HDF machines. In January 2006, the company entered the water purification market with a new filtration device, the Dual Stage Ultrafilter. In development stage are the OLpur H2H, an add-on module designed to enable HDF therapy using the most common types of hemodialysis machines, and the OLpur NS2000 system, a stand-alone HDF machine with associated filter technology.

 |
| Technology / Differentiation |
| Nephros has developed Mid-Dilution Hemodiafiltration, a fluid management system offering optimized removal of renal toxins across the molecular spectrum. In concert with this technology, Nephros has developed a cost-effective online substitution fluid system that delivers ultra-pure substitution fluid in real-time. This effectively eliminates cost issues associated with earlier diafiltration systems.
Long-term studies have demonstrated the value and efficacy of Hemodiafiltration over Hemodialysis (HD). Patients on Hemodiafiltration (SHDF) reflected a 40% reduction in carpal tunnel syndrome surgeries (a marker for morbidity) and 10% mortality reduction vs. the HD-based control group. |
 |
| Market / Customers |
The Dual Stage Ultrafilter initially targets hospitals and other medical facilities, which are particularly stringent in their water quality requirements. With over 5,000 registered hospitals in the U.S., Nephros believes the hospital shower and faucet market offers an opportunity in water filtration. Nephros has also begun investigating a range of commercial, industrial and retail opportunities for its water purification technology. Nephros currently sells its OLpur MD190 dialyzer in a "Target European Market" consisting of Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Renal dialysis is a $10 billion market worldwide.

| Strategy |
Nephros expects to focus its sales and marketing efforts in 2006 primarily on the OLpur MD190 product in Europe. In March 2005, Nephros entered into an agreement with Asahi to manufacture and distribute filter products based on the OLpur MD190 hemodiafilter in Japan.

 |
| Status |
| In June 2005, Nephros received FDA approval to market the OLpur HD190 high flux filter, but this product is not expected to offer a substantial sales opportunity in the foreseeable future. Nephros is seeking FDA approval for HDF therapy in the U.S. and expects to apply for regulatory approval for the OLpur MD190 and the next-generation OLpur H2H, in the U.S. by the end of 2006. The OLpur NS2000 system, a stand-alone hemodiafiltration machine and associated filter technology, is being developed in conjunction with an established machine manufacturer in Italy. |
