Description
CoreValve, S.A. has developed a proprietary delivery system for percutaneous heart valve replacement without open heart surgery via a novel catheter-and-self-expanding-stent approach on a beating heart.
Products / Services
CoreValve's Percutaneous Aortic Valve Replacement (PAVR) is an aortic heart valve replacement system that enables valve replacement without the need for open-heart surgery.
Technology / Differentiation
CoreValve's underlying technological procedure is performed in a similar manner to angioplasty or stenting. Using the proprietary CoreValve Percutaneous ReValving System (TM) in a cardiac catheter lab, valve replacement is performed in a minimally invasive manner, resulting in reduced patient trauma and substantial cost-savings to the healthcare system.
Market / Customers
Over 300,000 people worldwide have heart-valve repair or replacement surgery every year. CoreValve addresses this market whilst enabling the procedures to be performed in a less invasive manner.
Status
In December of 2007, CoreValve was a recipient of the Red Herring 100 Global Award for the top-100 tech start-ups in the world. Currently, more than 500 patients have undergone successful aortic valve replacement with the CoreValve procedure.
