Description
Applied NeuroSolutions is developing an integrated product portfolio for the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD). They have partnered with a team of scientists at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Products / Services
The company's products in development include a cerebrospinal fluid "CFS" based diagnostic test to detect whether a person has AD and a second-generation, serum-based diagnostic test to detect AD that will be easier to perform and less expensive to use.
Technology / Differentiation
The Company is working on a therapeutic program developed by Dr. Peter Davies based on the common pathway leading to the development of abnormal, destructive brain structures characteristic of AD. This screen can be used to identify drugs that interfere with that pathway, thereby preventing disease development.
Strategy
The company has strategic agreements with Pfizer, Novartis and Nanosphere, Inc.
Status
In 2005 the company submitted its Pre-IDE documents to the FDA and had a Pre-IDE meeting with the FDA for its CSF-based diagnotics test. Due to funding constraints, the company is not currently pursuing regulatory approval of the test.
Additional Information
The company changed its name from Hemoxymed, Inc. to Applied NeuroSolutions in October 2003 to reflect its focus upon the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's.
