Description
I-Flow develops and markets ambulatory drug delivery systems for pain management and intravenous infusion therapy. The company focuses on three distinct markets: Regional Anesthesia, IV Infusion Therapy and Oncology Infusion Services.
Products / Services
I-Flow manufactures a line of compact, portable infusion pumps, catheters, needles and pain kits that administer medication directly to the wound site, as well as administer local anesthetics, chemotherapies, antibiotics, diagnostic agents, nutritional supplements and other medications. Its principal product is the ON-Q Post-Operative Pain Relief System. I-Flow's IV Infusion Therapy products include intravenous elastomeric pumps, mechanical infusion devices and disposables.
Technology / Differentiation
The ON-Q PainBuster Post-Op Pain Relief System provides continuous infusion of a local anesthetic directly into the patient's surgical site for effective, non-narcotic post-operative pain relief for up to five days. Clinical studies have demonstrated the safety and efficacy of regional anesthetic therapy for post-surgery pain relief.
Market / Customers
The annual U.S. post-surgery pain relief market is estimated at $2 billion. This market is about 4% penetrated by narcotic-free regional anethesia therapies. I-Flow estimates that 15 million U.S. surgeons are candidates for its ON-Q products. I-Flow's products are used in hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, physicians' offices and patients' homes. I-Flow sells and distributes its products throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East.
Competitors / Substitutes / Alternatives
Narcotics remain I-Flow's chief competitor in the relief of post-surgical pain. About 96% of U.S. patients are treated with narcotics for post-operative pain. Other companies with narcotic-free therapies include Stryker, dj Orthopedics and McKinley Medical.
Strategy
I-Flow is focused on building market awareness of the clinical and economic advantages of ON-Q technology through a combination of clinical studies, sales force expansion and marketing programs.
