| Description |
Headquartered in Heidelberg, Germany, mtm Laboratories AG markets proprietary diagnostic and early detection technologies for cervical cancer. |
| Products / Services |
mtm's CINtec product line, based on the detection of the cellular biomarker p16INK4a, offers the potential for a highly accurate diagnosis of early-stage cervical cancer (including the symptomless stages). mtm is currently marketing CINtec Histology and CINtec Cytology as adjunctive tools for the early detection of cervical cancer in biopsy tissue and cytology specimens, respectively. In addition, mtm is developing an additional test to detect the soluble form of p16INK4a in cell lysates, the Cervatec ELISA Assay.
| Technology / Differentiation |
| p16INK4a, a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, demonstrates marked over-expression in cancerous and precancerous cervical tissue and thereby serves as an ideal candidate as a biomarker for cervical cancer. mtm's diagnostic kits are based around the E6H4 antibody clone, which is highly selective and sensitive in detecting p16INK4a . |
| Market / Customers |
Cervical cancer kills 310,000 women every year worldwide. 11,150 women in the United States were diagnosed with the disease in 2007; 50% of these women did not have a recent Pap test. mtm hopes to improve upon the sensitivity of Pap screening, which sometimes leads to 'false negative' results.
| Status |
| mtm Laboratories has completed Pan European, pivotal clinical trials to support CE claims for each of its products, and is in the process of initiating PMA trials for regulatory approvals in the U.S. To date, the company has independently been conducting its technical and clinical development programs as well as directly selling and marketing in Europe and the U.S. mtm recently closed its Series C financing for a total of 31.6 million Euros. This investment will be used to bolster the clinical development and commercialization of the company's novel biomarker family for the screening and management of cervical cancer. |
