Description
Electro-Optical Sciences (EOS) develops non-invasive, point-of-care instruments to assist in the early diagnosis of melanoma. The company's flagship product is MelaFind, a tool for detecting melanoma. MelaFind has not yet received regulatory approval and generates no revenue.
Products / Services
MelaFind is a hand-held imaging device that captures images of suspicious pigmented skin lesions and extracts data.
Technology / Differentiation
MelaFind uses visible and infrared light to capture images of suspicious pigmented skin lesions, which are then analyzed against a proprietary database of melanomas and benign lesions. The database includes results of over 5,000 biopsied lesions from over 3,500 patients. The MelaFind system uses a Lesion Classifier to distinguish between melanoma from non-melanoma lesions, using EOS' lesion database and mathematical algorithms.
Market / Customers
Melanoma is responsible for around 80% of skin cancer fatalities. There is currently no cure for advanced stage melanoma and treatment costs are estimated to run up to $170,000 per patient. However, early detection almost always leads to a cure with relatively minimal costs.

Status
