| Description |
Rockwell manufactures and distributes hemodialysis concentrates, dialysis kits and ancillary products used in the dialysis process. Rockwell's products are used to cleanse the end stage renal disease (ESRD) patient's blood and replace nutrients in the bloodstream. |
| Products / Services |
Rockwell provides a full-line of hemodialysis products. These include the proprietary Dri-Sate Dry Acid Concentrate Mixing System, RenalPure Liquid Acid Concentrate, SteriLyte Liquid Bicarbonate Concentrate, RenalPure Powder Bicarbonate Concentrate, Blood Tubing Sets, Fistula Needles and a wide range of ancillary dialysis items.
| Technology / Differentiation |
| Rockwell's proprietary iron replacement therapy delivers iron through a dialyzer and into the bloodstream without the need for needles or syringes. The product is administered three times a week, while the ESRD patient is receiving dialysis treatment, and it maintains a more constant therapy dose than intravenous iron delivery. It also reduces the liver toxicity often associated with IV iron delivery, and it lowers the cost of administering iron to ESRD patients.
Rockwell's proprietary water-soluble vitamin and carnitine mixture, also delivered through a dialyzer, replaces carnitine and vitamins removed during dialysis. |
| Market / Customers |
There are an estimated 350,000 dialysis patients in the United States. The incidence of ESRD has increased approximately 6%-8% on average each year over the last decade, driven by an aging population.
Rockwell markets its products to hemodialysis providers in the US, Eastern Europe, Latin America and Asia.
| Competitors / Substitutes / Alternatives |
Rockwell Medical Technologies, Inc. is one of four major concentrate manufacturer/distributors in the U.S. Competitors include Mintech and Gambro Renal Products (now owned by DaVita Inc).
| Strategy |
Rockwell's SFP will deliver iron to the dialysis patient via the company's dialysate product line. Once approved by the FDA, the company believes its SFP will compete aggressively in the $300 million U.S. IV-Iron market.
| Status |
| Rockwell's SFP has completed an FDA-approved Phase-I and Phase-II Clinical trial. A Phase-III Clinical trial will be completed prior to market launch which is estimated to be first quarter 2008. |
