| Description |
|
GANYMED Pharmaceuticals AG is a biopharmaceutical company offering smart antibody therapeutics for ideal targets in solid cancers. The company's R&D objective is to provide cancer-specific cell surface antigen targets for the majority of the most frequent solid cancers. |
 |
| Products / Services |
GANYMED's first in-house generated lead antibody series is directed at GC182, a target compound strongly correlated with stomach, pancreatic, esophageal and lung cancers. Claudiximab (iMAB362) is an ideal monoclonal antibody (iMAB) directed against the GC182 target, a gastric differentiation protein that is expressed at the cell surface of 70% of gastric cancers, 50% of pancreatic cancers, 30% of esophageal cancers, and 25% of non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLCs). GT468 is an iMAB directed against PLAC1, a placental protein expressed at the cell surface in 80% of breast cancers, 60% of NSCLCs, and 20% of ovarian cancers. GANYMED also has five further antibody projects in development for breast, colorectal, lung, pancreatic and prostate cancers.

 |
| Technology / Differentiation |
| GANYMED has established advanced immunization technologies that can generate a broad range of highly effective and selective antibodies to the same target. Because of their strict tumor-specificity, GANYMED's ideal antibodies (iMABs) can be designed with maximum tumor-cell killing potential. This specificity contrasts with most current antibodies that have been designed with low cell killing potential, because the targets of these antibodies are also expressed in vital normal tissues. Freed from concerns relating to toxicity in normal tissues, GANYMED's iMABs can fulfill the full potential of therapeutic antibodies by unleashing three separate yet synergistic biological attacks specifically focused on the cancer cells alone: direct suppression of tumor growth, antibody dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) and antibody dependent complement lysis (CDC). |
 |
| Market / Customers |
Monoclonal antibodies have emerged as the most promising new class of therapeutics in oncology. Several products have reached blockbuster proportions with sales of more than $1 billion. Overall monoclonal antibody sales are projected to grow at 17% per annum until 2010, much higher than the 10% per annum rate of the cancer therapeutics market in general.

| Status |
| Clinical trials for Claudiximab against metastatic gastro-esophageal carcinoma will shortly commence with a multi-center Phase Ib study. GANYMED announced in November 2008 the closing of a 65 million Euro financing round led by ATS Beteiligungsverwaltung GmbH. |
