Description
BioLok International to be Acquired by Healthpoint Capital. BioLok is merging cell biology and technology to develop and market products for the dental implant and tissue regeneration markets. The company is the worldwide manufacturer and distributor of the BioLok Precision Dental Implant System, which consists of a line of dental implants, their prosthetic components, tools, devices, irrigated spade drills, and membranes and bone augmentation materials for use around implants.
Products / Services
BioLok offers the BioLok Precision Dental Implant System, an all-inclusive product line. The company began marketing the Laser-Lok system in the United States and internationally in 2005. The Laser-Lok's proprietary laser microgrooving technology was developed by BioLok's research and development subsidiary, Orthogen. BoneGen-TR is a clinically safe, nano-composite, time release calcium sulfate product used for bone regeneration, augmentation, and as a soft tissue barrier in implantology, periodontology, endodontics and oral surgery.
Technology / Differentiation
BioLok's dental implants are made of bio-compatible titanium. BioLok offers a line of screw implants that incorporate many patented features. The company sought to inhibit the migration of epithelial cells into the soft and hard tissue spaces around the implant. Epithelial cells are programmed to form a complete outer layer on the surface of the soft tissue and if left unchecked will undermine the formation of a soft tissue seal to the implant and block crestal bone healing. The 8 micron cell channels of the Laser-Lok Bioaffinity Collar inhibit the vertical migration of epithelial cells, maintaining space for fibroblasts and osteogenic cells to attach to the implant. Laser-Lok's 12 micron cell channels direct osteogenic cells to migrate along and produce strong horizontally organized bone matrix within the channels, which resist higher loading forces.
Market / Customers
The company markets the BioLok Precision Dental Implant System directly to clinicians, dental specialists and institutions. The broad bone augmentation market, served by BoneGen-TR, is estimated at over $1 billion annually by Datamonitor.
