| Description |
|
superDimension develops and markets minimally-invasive pulmonological devices for the diagnosis and treatment of distal lung disease. |
 |
| Products / Services |
The superDimension inReach System enables physicians to access peripheral and distal lung lesions and mediastinal lymph nodes with a minimally invasive technique suitable for patients who cannot undergo more invasive procedures. It also assists them in previewing and planning navigation through the bronchial tree prior to the procedure. superDimension's inReach System extends beyond the capabilities of the bronchoscope to distant, previously inaccessible regions of the lungs not accessible through traditional bronchoscopy.

 |
| Technology / Differentiation |
| Similar to GPS technology, the inReach System provides a three-dimensional roadmap of the lungs generated from a patient's previously-acquired CT images. Before the procedure, physicians use the virtual image to mark targeted lesions and later use an electromagnetic localization system to locate the lesions in real-time. Once the conventional bronchoscope and inReach catheters are implanted, the physician matches the anatomy to the positions marked in the virtual images. The guiding catheters are then navigated to target areas in real time, and then endobronchial tools are used to collect tissue samples. Pulmonologists can also place dye markers in peripheral lung lesions and near the pleura surface during Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS), as well as place radiosurgical markers in and around lung tumors. Both markers can potentially lead to improved outcomes through less-invasive methods and with fewer complications. |
 |
| Market / Customers |
The inReach System addresses a total available market of more than 9 million patients in the United States. More than 1.3 million people worldwide die of lung cancer each year around the world. It is the most common cancer-related death in American men and the second most common in women.

| Status |
| superDimension obtained its CE Mark in 2002 and received 510(k) clearance from the FDA for the inReach System in 2007. The company holds fourteen granted U.S. patents and $21 million in venture capital to date. In 2004, the company was selected by MIT's Technology Review magazine as holding one of the world's five most outstanding patents; it was the only healthcare-related company among the five distinguished. |
