Description
Sensys Medical is committed to advancing blood glucose monitoring and the science of diabetes disease management through the creation and commercialization of the Sensys Glucose Tracking System (Sensys GTS'), a non-invasive blood glucose measurement device.
Products / Services
The Sensys Glucose Tracking System (Sensys GTS') enables people living with diabetes to conduct unlimited testing of blood glucose levels and to track these levels over time to better understand the effect of medication, meals, exercise and state of health.
Technology / Differentiation
Uses NIR-DRS as the process of understanding how NIR light (750-2500nm) interacts with various molecules (e.g. fat, glucose, protein, and water) in human tissue. Each type of molecule reacts differently (i.e. absorbs NIR light) when illuminated with NIR light. The amount of light absorbed is proportional to the concentration of that particular molecule. NIR-DRS has an inherent advantage due to its non-destructive and fast nature.
Market / Customers
According to a 2005 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 20.8 million Americans have diabetes. This figure represents a 14% increase in only two years. In addition, in the year 2002 The American Diabetes Association estimated that the total costs of diabetes (including indirect costs) was more than $132 billion.
Funding
Current investors include: Alliance Technology Ventures, A.M. Pappas and Associates, AIM Investments, Adams Street Partners, and Adams Capital Management.
