| Description |
|
Optima Neuroscience, Inc. is an early stage company focused on the development of novel devices, software and instruments for neurological monitoring. The company is developing user friendly devices that will offer critical brain function monitoring in the hospital and clinical setting. |
 |
| Products / Services |
Optima's first product, IdentEvent, combines EEG review software with high performance seizure detection. It is currently under review by the FDA. The second product under development-the CereScope-is a portable stand alone brain function monitor that can be used in epilepsy monitoring units, intensive care units, emergency rooms, recovery rooms, and other critical care units. This system records and monitors brain electrical activity and provides brain function indices, seizure warning and detection. The system will include alerts and detections of other threatening brain conditions such as ischemia (reduced blood supply and impending stroke), hypoglycemia, and hypoxia, and monitors effects of treatment with drugs such as anticonvulsants, sedatives, and anesthetics.

 |
| Technology / Differentiation |
Currently no EEG review software exists with highly accurate seizure detection. Optima Neuroscience's IdentEvent utilizes proprietary algorithms to achieve the high performance seizure detection sensitivity and low false positive rate necessary to actually reduce the time it takes to review EEG records. In addition to market leading seizure detection, IdentEvent incorporates the following key features: - Clinically-oriented, easy to understand user interfaces
- Supports multiple formats from existing EEG acquisition systems
- Three-tiered window system for rapid EEG navigation
- Simple note tracking and clinical report generating system
- PHI de-identification tools for HIPAA compliance in research protocols
- Supports multi-core processing for faster analysis

| Status |
| Optima Neuroscience announced in March 2009 that it had been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I grant from the NIH National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). The grant will allow Optima to develop a prototype seizure monitoring system to demonstrate the feasibility of its application in an inpatient clinical environment. Optima plans to submit a Phase II application later this year to further develop and more broadly test the brain monitor. A 510(k) application for this product has been submitted to the FDA and is currently under review. The company anticipates launching the Cerescope in April 2010. |
