Description
Nerites Corporation develops medical devices to aid tissue repair, speed surgical times, and reduce postoperative complications.
Products / Services
Nerites portfolio of surgical adhesive and coating products can be used to: close internal tears and cavities, prevent bacterial biofilm formation and postsurgical adhesion, affix synthetic and biologic devices and immobilize local therapeutics. The company's technology can be used as a stand-alone product or in conjunction with an existing product.
Technology / Differentiation
Nerites' adhesives represent a new generation of synthetic biomaterials that can enhance natural tissue repair, reduce complications from traditional devices, and degrade safely when they are no longer needed. Compared to current products, Nerites offers: superior adhesive strength, zero biologic components, ease of preparation and delivery, flexibility of formulation (set time, swelling, degradation, elasticity, etc.). Products are typically delivered as a hydrogel in situ or pre-coated onto an adjunctive medical device.
Market / Customers
Nerites' technology can be applied to many different indications, so the company has chosen to pursue partnerships with major medical device firms to create novel solutions that improve patient outcomes. Product development is a collaborative effort with a well-defined process, from initial specifications through regulatory approval. Nerites partners receive an exclusive license to market products within a well-defined indication, while Nerites supplies an application-optimized polymer. The Nerites technology can be used as a standalone product or as an adjunct to an existing product.
Status
Nerites' innovations have been featured in the July 2007 issue of Nature and the June 2008 issue of the Journal of Endourology. The company's offerings were labeled "one of the top 100 scientific developments of 2007" by Discover Magazine. The company received an NIH grant in February 2009-to be used in developing new techniques for tendon repair-and continuously seeks corporate partnerships and private investments to support the development of adhesive products for specific indications.
