| Description |
VeraLight is a medical instrumentation company that was established in October 2004 as an independent spinout of InLight Solutions to focus on a comprehensive approach to noninvasive diabetes screening. |
| Products / Services |
VeraLight's lead product is a desk-top instrument, code-named Scout , that detects diabetes in a minute via fluorescent light emitted from an individual's forearm and does not require patient fasting. Scout is slated for market introduction in 2008, a prototype of the system was able to identify 29 percent more pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes patients than the FPG test, according to a study presented at the 2006 Scientific Assembly of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

| Technology / Differentiation |
| Scout employs fluorescence spectroscopy to noninvasively measure advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) in the skin of a subject's forearm. Skin AGEs are a well-known biomarker of diabetes, an excellent indicator of cumulative hyperglycemic exposure, and have been shown to predict the development of type 2 diabetes. |
