Description
Celera Genomics, a business segment of Applera Corporation, is principally engaged in integrating advanced technologies to discover and develop therapeutics. The Company intends to leverage its capabilities in proteomics, bioinformatics and genomics to identify and validate drug targets, and to discover and develop new therapeutics either on its own or in collaboration with other companies. Celera Genomics expects to use these capabilities with its molecular and cell biology, medicinal and computational chemistry, pharmacology and other drug development technologies to optimize the potency, selectivity and physical properties of new drug candidates.
Products / Services
Celera Genomics is building a product portfolio based on its expertise in medicinal chemistry, structure-based drug design, proteomics and genomics. Initial focus areas include inflammation, coagulation, and oncology. The company has partnered with Merck to develop Cathepsin K inhibitors for osteoporosis, Maxim Pharmaceuticals to develop Apoptosis Inducers for cancer, and with Aventis to develop Cathepsin S inhibitors for inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
Technology / Differentiation
Celera Genomics was founded to sequence and assemble the human genome to which it completed a first draft sequence in two years. The Company then sequence the mouse genome in nine months and build the Celera Discovery System online platform, providing scientists access to these genomes, as well as annotation, biological information and comparative genomic tools.
