| Description |
|
TherOx, Inc. develops, manufactures, and markets minimally invasive products for the delivery of aqueous oxygen to ischemic tissues. Deeply committed to maintaining the highest standards of scientific excellence, TherOx works with a panel of leading scientific and clinical advisors who guide the ongoing development of this potentially life-saving technology. In addition to the initial focus on cardiovascular disease, TherOx is exploring potential applications in cancer, wound & skin care treatment, organ preservation, and hemorrhagic shock. TherOx is located in Irvine, California, one of the world's leading centers for medical technology development. |

| Products / Services |
The initial application for the AO system is acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The system is designed to be used adjunctively with current interventional therapies, including stenting, coronary angioplasty, and other interventional procedures. The TherOx AO System utilizes two disposable components for each 90-minute AO therapeutic treatment. The TherOx AO Cartridge is easily installed into the AO system for the production of AO solution. The AO cartridge contains a sterile fluid path for connection to the patient arterial pathway via a specialized sub-selective AO delivery catheter. The AO delivery catheter is used for controlled, selective infusion of the AO-treated, hyperoxemic blood to the patient?s ischemic region. The TherOx AO Cartridge is a disposable, three-chambered cartridge that installs easily into the AO system for the 90-minute AO therapy procedure. The AO cartridge incorporates a sterile draw and return fluid path for transporting the patient's blood.

| Technology / Differentiation |
| TherOx developed aqueous oxygen (AO) technology to treat ischemic (oxygen-deprived) tissues and conditions. Using the TherOx AO System, hyperbaric levels of oxygen can be delivered to the heart to salvage tissue affected by acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). This is the first of many applications for TherOx technology platform including stroke, cancer therapy, wound & skin care, hemorrhagic shock and organ preservation. Potentially, AO may be a treatment for all types of ischemia. |

| Market / Customers |
TherOx is initially focusing on an application for treating patients suffering acute myocardial infarction. Meanwhile TherOx is exploring the use of AO technology in stroke, wound & skin care, cancer, organ preservation, and hemorrhagic shock.

| Funding |
| TherOx, Inc. announced that it has completed a $30 million round of private equity financing. The financing was led by American Express Financial Corporation, with additional funding from Hambrecht & Quist Capital Management, Inc, Citigroup Investments Inc, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and Enterprise Development Fund. |
 |
| Status |
| TherOx, Inc. announced that it has received permission from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to initiate a Phase II clinical study in the United States with the TherOx AO System. The AO system hyperoxygenates a patient?s blood with aqueous oxygen (AO), and then delivers the hyperoxygenated blood to oxygen-deprived areas of the heart following heart attack. |
