Description
Envisioneering has developed a 3-D system for prostate imaging and targeted biopsy. The system allows a physician to generate a true solid 3-D image, manipulate it, and precisely plan and undertake a multi-sample biopsy of a targeted tissue mass in the prostate.
Products / Services
The company's initial product offering, the TargetScan System for prostate imaging and biopsy, combines proprietary 3-D ultrasound technology with the capability to perform precise, targeted prostate biopsies and treatments in order to improve patient outcomes and reduce side effects. Without moving the device, the TargetScan system can complete a 3-D scan of the entire prostate in seconds, in 1mm increments. This level of control and accuracy cannot be achieved by any other system in the market. TargetScan's 3-D imaging system gives physicians a level of precision critically important for prostate imaging, biopsy, procedure planning and treatment delivery.
Technology / Differentiation
Combining 3-D image acquisition with a stationary probe, TargetScan allows physicians to plan and execute targeted prostate biopsies using a patented bendable biopsy needle. Comparably, current procedures require urologists to hold and pivot a probe with one hand while performing a needle biopsy with the other hand, thus resulting in missed potential cancers.
Market / Customers
Urologists, radiation oncologists, and physicians may benefit from this device. Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer (excluding skin cancer) diagnosed in American men, afflicting one in six men during his lifetime. Every 2.6 minutes, a new case of prostate cancer is diagnosed. Last year, roughly 221,000 new cases of prostate cancer were detected in the United States.
Status
Envisioneering Medical Technologies has signed an exclusive European distribution agreement with Netherlands-based Isodose Control, enabling delivery of advanced prostate cancer treatment technology to more patients around the globe. Meanwhile, FDA approved TargetScan is available in urology clinics across the United States. The company has also completed Series B financing.
