| Description |
|
IsoRay Medical™ provides innovative solutions for the treatment and diagnosis of disease using medical isotopes. Cesium-131, a seed brachytherapy radioisotope, is the Company’s powerful new treatment for prostate cancer; brachytherapy is a one-time, minimally invasive procedure that involves the placement of tiny seeds containing a radioactive isotope inside the prostate to kill malignant cells. Compared to other prostate brachytherapy isotopes on the market, Cesium-131 has a higher average energy, which enhances uniformity in radiation, and also has the shortest half-life, which limits side effects and increases the drug’s biological effective dose. This later-stage biotechnology company’s brachytherapy isotope received FDA approval in 2003, and the Company expects to broaden its treatment options with the development of protocols for the treatments of breast, liver, lung, pancreatic, and other cancers and malignancies. |
