| The mounted modular endoscope valve enables the physician to manually control the flow of irrigation fluid during urological surgery and/or endoscopic procedures. More than one million cases of urolithiasis (kidney stones) are diagnosed annually in the United States, with the total number of Americans suffering from kidney stones steadily increasing over the past twenty years. Kidney stone incidence is higher in the warmer parts of the U.S., presumably due to increased fluid loss. A study published in July 2008 suggests that global warming could increase the incidence of this condition to 30% in the most affected areas and cause an additional 1.6 to 2.2 million cases by 2050.
