| Description |
At Cohera Medical, Inc. we are committed to creating surgical devices that improve patient care and quality of life for all surgical procedures, applications and specialties. Our philosophy is to always deliver more than expected to our customers, shareholders and employees while applying the highest standards of excellence, performance and commitment to create value.
Cohera is preparing to enter clinical trials with its lead product TissuGluŽ starting with a target application in plastic surgery. The company intends to achieve the following product development milestones in 2008:
* Conduct chemical characterization studies and biocompatibility testing to establish product safety,
* Perform pre-clinical tests that will result in efficacy data for the targeted clinical application, and
* Establish manufacturing and sterilization protocols for implementation at a GMP facility. |
| Products / Services |
Cohera's lead product is TissuGlu, a deep wound adhesive for securing planar flaps of tissue to reduce fluid accumulation in the wound. TissuGlu is biocompatible and biodegradable, making it safe for internal use. The 2nd product in the company's pipeline is a fast, strong adhesive for securing soft tissues and implantable devices such as hernia mesh.
| Technology / Differentiation |
| Small changes in Cohera's chemical formulation can lead to product line extensions for a variety of surgical indications, including soft tissue fixation, mesh fixation, and small bone. The breakdown components of the adhesive are designed to be non-toxic, leading to virtually no foreign body reaction or inflammation based on preliminary testing in animals. |
| Market / Customers |
The U.S. market for surgical adhesives is estimated at approximately $280 million.
| Status |
| In July 2008, Cohera announced that it has been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant for its 3rd product, a small bone adhesive that chemically bonds with adjacent bone and resorbs in a timely fashion to allow normal bone healing. It has also been awarded Phase II SBIR Grant for the continued development of TissuGlu. |
