| Description |
|
Based in Irvine, Calif., NeoMatrix develops innovative devices that allow women and their doctors to promote optimal breast health. The company's premier product, the HALO Breast Pap Test, is the only fully-automated and non-invasive breast cancer risk assessment system designed for use in the primary care setting as part of an annual well-woman visit. |
 |
| Products / Services |
The HALO Breast Pap Test non-invasively collects nipple aspirate fluid, which is then sent to a laboratory for cytological evaluation. The laboratory looks for pre-cancerous changes (cellular atypia) discernable years before abnormalities might be felt or seen on a mammogram. The system has been FDA cleared for the collection of nipple aspirate fluid for cytological evaluation and determination and/or differentiation of normal versus pre-malignant versus malignant cells.

 |
| Technology / Differentiation |
| The HALO System tests asymptomatic, normal risk women for the presence of atypical ductal cells, a known biomarker that confers an elevated risk (specifically, approximately four to five times the normal risk) of developing breast cancer in the future. Identifying these high risk women years before they may develop cancer enables implementation of risk reduction strategies, such as lifestyle changes or chemoprevention, and more frequent surveillance aimed at early detection should cancer develop. The majority of women who develop breast cancer have no known risk factors, only realizing their risk when diagnosed with the disease. |
 |
| Market / Customers |
More than 180,000 US women will have been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, with over 40,000 women having died from the disease, making it the second leading cause of cancer death for American women. Breast cancer, on average, has been growing over eight years before becoming detectable via mammogram and for about ten years before becoming palpable. Although $3 billion is spent annually on breast cancer screening, only modest progress has been made in mortality rates.

| Status |
| NeoMatrix closed a Series C round of equity financing in 2007, which enabled an expanded market release of the HALO System. The company's innovations have received considerable mainstream press coverage across the United States, mainly in the metropolitan areas of California and recently including a national airing on the Rachael Ray Show in September 2008. |
