Description
Synapse Biomedical Inc (SBI) commercializes state of the art electrical stimulation technology for the treatment of chronic respiratory insufficiency. Chronic target patients include those with Lou Gehrig's disease, high cervical spinal cord injury (SCI), and may include surgical intensive care unit patients in the future.
Products / Services
SBI provides the full spectrum of components needed for electrical stimulation, including: external pulse generators, electrodes, minimally invasive surgical instruments, and diagnostic systems.
Technology / Differentiation
The NeuRx DPS(tm) RA/4: Electrode leads are laparoscopically implanted into the diaphragm motor points & muscle, tunneled subcutaneously with an extension lead to a percutaneous connector site, and connected to an external pulse generator. The generator provides timing and control to activate sufficient movement of the diaphragm muscle to assist respiration.
Market / Customers
General and thoracic surgeons with referral from neurologists (ALS) and physiatrists (SCI).
Status
FDA approved June 17, 2008!
In November 2007, Synapse Biomedical, Inc was granted the CE Mark through its notified body BSI (British Standard Institute) under the CE Registration #518356. Several prominent centers in Europe have started implanting ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) as well as SCI (Spinal Cord Injury) patients with Synapse's technology.
