The global healthcare market, the single largest sector in developed economies, has historically under-invested in IT. In response, increasing numbers of healthcare payors, providers, pharmaceutical companies, self-insured employers, and the CMS (Medicare and Medicaid), are adopting technology-based solutions that improve quality of patient care, reduce administrative costs and streamline manual processes. Broadly, we believe that the provision of care will dramatically change in the coming years due to drastic improvements in clinical medicine, a shifting demographic of baby boomers, and fiscal pressures across all constituencies. GA has been at the forefront of understanding the major trends in healthcare and the significant impact IT will continue to have in this industry. Customers/Clients Since its first healthcare/IT investment in Eclipsys in 1996, GA has invested nearly $900 million in 12 companies in the healthcare industry globally, including GA's most recent healthcare investment of $320 million in Emdeon Business Services Corporation.
