Doc Says Small Firms Further Innovation

The air max 270 noir International Herald Tribune yesterday ran a short profile on Dr. Thomas Fogarty, a well known cardiovascular surgeon who holds about 125 patents including one for the Aneurx stent. In it, Fogarty expresses concern for a medical device industry that through consolidation has become dominated by a small number of large companies. Although big firms have the air max 270 noir marketing muscle to deliver devices to patients faster, they fall short when it comes to innovation, Fogarty says, noting, “85 percent of new technology comes out of small companies that end up getting acquired by large companies.” If you’re going to be acquired, though, Fogarty says you could do worse than Johnson & Johnson, a firm that he tells the Tribune is “good at assimilating small companies and their technologies.”
